Mercedes Lachmann

Mercedes Lachmann’s research takes place primarily in the field of sculpture, installation and video.

Water has been a recurring element in his poetics, referring to issues such as the ephemerality of life, the transformations of matter and the scarcity of natural resources.

Her work explores the tension between materials of nature and distinct characteristics, creating ambivalent relationships between strength and fragility, rigidity and fluidity, weight and lightness. The most recent works bring plants, medicinal and aromatic herbs combining different powers through a sensitive alchemy.

The artist is interested in large projects and some of her works are developed with the perspective of being reproduced on a larger scale.

Graduated in Arts at PUC-RJ, she continued her training at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage (EAV) taking several courses, especially with Iole de Freitas. Since 2014 he started to present his productions in collective and individual exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. Artist nominated for the Pipa Prize in 2018.
